Privacy

We collect as little as we can. We use analytics to understand how the site is used, show advertising, and keep the email address of anyone who signs up for updates. You can ask to see or delete your information at any time.

This policy follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which pages are read and how people find the site. It uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and the pages you visit. It doesn’t tell us who you are.
  • Advertising. Google AdSense may use cookies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your interests. You can manage this in your Google ad settings.
  • Email sign-ups. If you sign up for updates or rules-change alerts, we store your email address, the date, and what you signed up for (for example, a species). We use it only to send what you asked for.
  • Messages. If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply.

Where it’s stored

Website hosting and email sign-ups are stored with Cloudflare. Analytics and advertising data is held by Google. Both may store information outside New Zealand.

Your choices

  • You can unsubscribe from any email using the link in it.

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the site still works without them.
